Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Information For Camp

As we continue to monitor the situation and make decisions, all updates will be published on this page.

Update May 19th

Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate unprecedented times around the COVID-19 pandemic. Camper and staff safety remain our first priority. All of our campers registered for Adventure Camp and Little Canyoneers are being called and either moved to later weeks this summer or secured their spots for 2021. We remain hopeful that we can open summer camps beginning in July. Lazy W Ranch continues to seek the counsel of ACA, CDC, medical professionals and local and state authorities. We will continue to monitor this situation and provide more updates as we have them.

Update May 11th

For the safety of our guests and staff, Lazy W Ranch Camp continues to be closed to business and the Public with the expectation for us to re-open as soon as it is safe to do so.  From the very beginning of this situation, our top priority has been the safety and well-being of our on site residents, staff and guests. For residents who live on site at Lazy W Ranch, Shelter in Place, as mandated by the CDC and government officials, is being practiced.

Unrelated to COVID-19, the Los Pinos trail is also closed, effective September 2019, and there is no access as ordered by the Cleveland National Forest. Many of you have requested information or access to the Los Pinos Trail.  Unfortunately, it remains closed until September 2020 due to the Holy Jim Fire.  Rehabilitation of the trail is incomplete limiting access due to burned cliffs and dangerous terrain from erosion of rains which followed the fire.  For updates on trail closures, please refer to the Forest Service website.  Cleveland National Forest.

Please feel free to check back here often for updates and we thank you for continued prayers as we all get through this TOGETHER.  We will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation and communicate updates.  We look forward to welcoming you back to Lazy W Ranch Camp.

Update April 28th

A note from the Director of Cal-Pac Camping, Rev. David Berkey:

Cal-Pac Summer Camp WILL HAPPEN this summer, one way or another! How?

Our government health officials and the Cal-Pac Conference have given us 3 options.

A decision about these options will be made no later than May 29th. Multiple scenarios are possible.

Here is a link for a survey that will help us plan even better for this summer and beyond. We are asking that pastors, youth leaders, children’s workers and parents fill this out so that we can best understand what your expectations are at this time.

Please pray, register, fill-out the survey and anticipate the joy that will be Cal-Pac Summer Camp 2020.

Update April 23rd

As we continue to closely monitor the CDC guidelines, updated guidance from state and local health officials, and the Camp leadership of Cal-Pac Conference, we remain confident that Lazy W Ranch will reopen beginning Memorial Day weekend as we continue planning for 2020 Summer Camp.  Many of you have offered to come out to the camp and volunteer as we repair buildings and landscape from rain damage while performing extra maintenance and cleaning during this unusually quiet time - a rarity for Camp Lazy W Ranch.  As we are beyond grateful for your offer to support the camp ministry physically, we must adhere to the stay-at-home order and social distancing practices.

The next month poses big decisions whether or not to hold some or all of our summer camp programs currently scheduled. Keep watch for an email update and survey coming to your inbox soon - your input will play a big part in our decision for Summer Camp 2020.  Whether here on site at Lazy W Ranch or virtual - we will hold summer camp.

For summer 2020, our cancellation policy has been adjusted to allow for a full refund prior to the start of your week at camp. However, because this global pandemic has had a significant financial impact on Lazy W Ranch camp, we are requesting that you consider one of the following options:

1.  Consider donating your child's summer camp registration fees to help keep camp running.

2.  Reserve your spot for Summer Camp 2021 now with your 2020 registration fee.

3.  Request a full refund of your Summer 2020 registration fee and we are happy to refund your fee 100%.

Reserve your spot today and sign up for camp worry-free!

For now, the staff remaining on site is doing some painting, deep cleaning and maintenance we usually don't have time for so that camp is ready when we return to camp as we know it - fun, laughter, children screaming - the constant noise sounds of camp. Please continue praying for us as we try to financially keep our remaining staff on as long as we can.

Thank you for your continued support of the ministry at Lazy W Ranch Camp.

Site Director

Update April 15th

We recognize there may be anxiety and apprehension around the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak and attending summer camp. We understand your concerns. To help ease some of the anxiety, we have modified our refund policy. For Summer Camp 2020, our cancellation policy has been adjusted to allow for a full refund prior to the start of your week at camp. The due date for Early-Bird Registration has been extended to May 15th.  Reserve your spot today and sign up for camp worry-free!

Lazy W Ranch Camp understands that in these uncertain times, we all want to know something certain in this situation, and would prefer to have a decision made now if summer camp is happening. Honestly, so would we! But, we also want to be careful not to make our decisions based on emotion. Because events are changing daily, we want to use the most recent information available to make the best decision to ensure both the health and safety of our campers and have the best chance at carrying out our ministry this summer. If we look at our lives just a few weeks ago, and where we are today, who would have imagined how drastic the changes would be? The same applies to where we could be in just another few weeks, even after an anticipated spike in mid-April. Then, we would know so much more.

We want to assure you that we will manage in an ethical and socially responsible manner throughout this crisis. Please know that if at any point in time it is considered not safe or appropriate to host summer camp, we will modify our planning and adjust summer camp schedule accordingly - possibly even a week in August or weekend in the fall.

What will Lazy W Ranch do to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

As an American Camp Association accredited operation, our standards for safety and best practices around cleaning and sanitizing are already considered the highest in the camping industry. We have already implemented enhanced sanitization procedures to ensure increased disinfecting of high use and high touch areas. We are staying up-to-date on the latest recommendations from government and medical experts for optimal cleaning materials and processes to keep our campers, staff, and workplace safe.

Update April 6th

Lazy W Ranch Camp wants to assure our families that camper and staff safety remain our top priority.  Our staff is working closely with Cal-Pac Annual Conference and industry leadership, to determine when we can safely return to full operation. We continue to closely monitor the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, updated guidance from state and local health officials, and other clinical decision support resources to stay current on the latest information on how to mitigate and manage COVID-19.  In situations like these where media reports may cause concerns among our staff and families, it is best to for us all to remember that even the Coronavirus has not caught God by surprise. We will continue to rely on factual information from reliable sources.

As of this time, we’re still planning for an extraordinary summer camping season.  We are working on a survey for parents, summer staff and church leaders to share their thoughts and plans to help us in deciding any changes to our summer camp ministry. Soon after, we will announce changes that will be made to scheduled events for the summer.

Lazy W Ranch Camp is committed to the health and safety of all our guests and staff.  Please know that our team is taking this seriously and we are monitoring this situation closely.  The leadership of Cal-Pac Camps and Lazy W Ranch Camp have been continually monitoring the status of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and listening carefully to the recommendations of the American Camping Association, CDC, our governmental leaders and medical experts.

We are thankful for your prayers as we continue daily preparation for an extraordinary ministry at camp later this spring and summer.  Our theme for Lazy W Ranch is “Faith Grows Here”.  During this season of change and difficulty, it is comforting to know that we can trust God because He will not fail us!

The Lord says, “Forget what happened before, and do not think about the past.  Look at the new thing I am going to do.  It is already happening.  Don’t you see it?  I will make a road in the desert and rivers in the dry land.” -Isaiah 43:18-19 (NCV)
