Volunteers

Summer camp volunteers are the backbone of the ministries at Lazy W Ranch. They serve as counselors, leaders and creative geniuses! Join us in 2024 to make an impact in the life of children, youth and young adults.

Summer Camp Volunteers

Counselors

These staff work directly with the campers in all parts of the daily program. Counselors supervise campers in cabins, provide leadership during family group time, and participate in large-group camp activities with their campers. By the start of the camp session, counselors must be 18 years old (21 for Senior High Camp).

Counselors-in-Training (CITs)

Individuals who are between 15 years and 8 months old and 17 years and 8 months old, who want to support camp ministry, can serve as CITs. These staff specifically support Elementary Camp and Junior High Camp.

Health Supervisor

The health supervisor is an RN, NP, PA, or MD who is responsible for the overall health of the campers and staff for a given week. Main responsibilities include administering prescription and over-the-counter medications, provide first aid for camper and staff injuries, and be on-call for medical emergencies.

Camper Advocate

This person works closely with the Health Supervisor, providing an additional set of hands and eyes in the infirmary. They keep a close eye out for the campers and help ensure safety at all times.

Leadership Teams

Classic camps are lead by a team of clergy and lay people, comprised to provide spiritual guidance, staff care, and camper care. In conjunction with the Program Coordinator, they work together to plan camp, recruit staff, care for campers and staff and so much more.

All volunteers are required to attend meetings and a variety of trainings. Upon review and acceptance of volunteer applications, individuals are supplied with the meeting/training schedule. In the event a volunteer cannot attend one or more of those meetings they are encouraged to apply when their schedule better fits the needs of our summer campers. All staff and volunteers are subject to a criminal background check.

Weekend Event Volunteers

Bishop's Confirmation Retreat- Design Team

The Bishop's Confirmation Retreat is a biennial weekend event, typically held in March or April, for Confirmands and their leaders. The retreat is designed to be a supplement to a Confirmation Class held within a local church. This team builds the weekend schedule of activities, and also helps recruit guest speakers and worship music leaders.

Young Adult Retreat- Design Team

The Young Adult Retreat is held annually in late summer. This is an event for young adults ages 18-24 in the Southern California region.  The Design Team determines the years theme, creates small and large group programs, recruits clergy and lay leaders, and recruits worship speakers and musicians.
